Accidentally Vegan, Part 1

Grocery stores, markets, and supermarkets carry a large number of items that are vegan, and a large number of items that you may not realize are vegan. There are faux franks; veggie burgers; chicken-free chicken patties; flavored and unflavored soy, almond, and rice milks; nondairy ice cream; and other delicious snacks are available for vegetarians and vegans. There are also a vast array of chips, dips, soups, cookies, candies, frozen pies, pastas, and other delectable foods that are also vegan.

Just check the ingredients of some items as you as you walk the aisles of your local market and you will understand. You will find some of the items you wish could eat as a vegan or vegetarian are actually vegan. Did you know that Pepperidge Farm Turnovers, Murray Butter Cookies, and Cracker Jacks are vegan?

Just a couple of words of caution are in order however. First, the items listed only apply to food items in the United States. Second, food manufacturers are liable to change the ingredients of a foodstuff at any time so be sure to check the label before you make a purchase.

This post will deal with dry breakfast foods and beverages. Subsequent posts will deal with snacks, condiments, baked goods, refrigerated and frozen foods, baking, and staples.
